Welfare rights team helps people access almost £1 million additional income

The Council’s Welfare Rights Team helped vulnerable people across ߣsirÊÓƵ and Bute to access almost £1 million of additional income during the first three months of 2018.

Thousands of people across the UK are not claiming the benefits they are entitled to, and ߣsirÊÓƵ and Bute is no exception. However, the first quarter of this year saw ߣsirÊÓƵ and Bute Council’s Welfare Rights Team help those eligible to receive an additional £911,956 – the highest figure ever achieved in the area.

Policy Lead for Communities and Housing, Councillor Robin Currie said: “This is fantastic news. Too many eligible people are struggling to make ends meet, completely unaware that they could be receiving benefits.

“They are falling through the cracks and not getting the financial support that they need and are entitled to.

“Our Welfare Rights Team does an outstanding job helping people in our communities and, on behalf of those they have given advice to, I would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication.

“I’d also like to encourage people to get in touch with the council if they are unsure about whether or not they, or a family member, are entitled to benefits."
