Following a consultation with communities and children, councillors have approved a proposal to rezone the catchment area for Dalmally Primary School.
The decision means that, with effect from 6 March 2025, the School鈥檚 catchment zone will extend to include the whole catchment area of the former Bridge of Orchy Primary, which closed in 2004.
Since the closure, families living within the Bridge of Orchy Primary School catchment area have had the option to choose either Dalmally Primary School or Crianlarich Primary School, which falls within the Stirling Council area.
The decision means that any new primary school pupils who live in the former Bridge of Orchy catchment area will automatically attend Dalmally Primary School.
Primary aged children who currently live in the Bridge of Orchy Primary School catchment area and already attend Crianlarich Primary School will be able to continue to do so up to Primary seven, should they choose to.
An extensive six-week consultation process, including a public meeting, took place in August 2024 to gather feedback from pupils, parents, communities and schools. Pupils potentially impacted by the proposed rezoning took part in focus groups to identify both positive and negative impacts of the proposal.
Councillor Audrey Forrest, Policy Lead for Education, said: 鈥淓nsuring that our children and young people have access to the best possible education is one of our top priorities.
鈥淭hank you to everyone who gave feedback during the consultation including children and young people.
鈥淲e believe the new arrangements will deliver increased educational benefits for our young people and will be welcomed by pupils, parents, teachers and the wider communities involved.鈥
The decision does not affect the right for parents and carers to make a placing request for their child to attend a school that is not their catchment school.
