B842 Saddell Mill Bridge - Re-opened to vehicles up to 26T 18.12.24
The Saddell Mill Bridge opened to vehicles up to 26 tonnes on Weds 18th December. Stabilisation works have been carried out and concrete testing confirmed the concrete has cured enough that the bridge is strong enough to support this weight of vehicle.
We can’t confirm when the bridge will fully reopen to all vehicles yet as we will need to do further testing to the concrete to confirm it can support weights over 26 tonnes.
For anyone north of Saddell Mill Bridge and south of Torrisdale Bridge we’re expecting to catch up on your bin collections this afternoon, or tomorrow at the very latest. Please put your bins out for collection.

FAQ's
What is happening with school transport?
We are in direct contact with parents about transport arrangements.
We have made arrangements for a bus to depart Carradale at 8am and goes round via the A83, arriving at Campbeltown Grammar around 8.40am.
The bus then departs at 3pm and goes back the same way.
Thankfully there are no school transport pupils who live between Torrisdale and Saddell bridges.
What is happening with bin collections?
Waste collections will be serviced as normal from both ends.
With the weight restriction on Torrisdale Bridge the bin lorry can’t go over it so the stretch between Torrisdale and Saddell can’t be serviced.
We weren’t able to collect bins as scheduled on 9th December so we are planning now to collect these on 18th December subject to the Saddell Mill bridge safely reopening.
People between Torrisdale and Saddell are expecting heavy goods deliveries – can the weight restriction on Torrisdale Bridge be lifted to allow deliveries?
No – that wouldn’t be safe to do so.
